Bosch Rexroth achieves record sales of 7 billion euros in fiscal 2022

Despite the challenging environment, Bosch Rexroth achieved double-digit sales growth in fiscal 2022

Demand for new orders remained strong at 7.3 billion euros

Investments in research and development, innovation and production networks reached a record high

Expansion and enhancement of the product portfolio through acquisitions and partnerships

In a challenging environment, we are cautiously optimistic about the prospects for 2023

In fiscal 2022, Bosch Rexroth achieved sales of 7 billion euros, a record high in the company’s history. This sales increased by 14.1% compared with the previous year. The amount of new orders was 7.3 billion euros, a slight decrease compared with the previous year, but still just below the record high. The company is enhancing the competitiveness of its product portfolio through acquisitions and strategic cooperation, and focusing on future business growth and balanced development of regional business. Bosch Rexroth’s investment in existing and new production sites and research and development has reached a record high. As of the end of 2022, Bosch Rexroth has approximately 32,100 employees worldwide, an increase of 3% compared with the previous year.

“Despite the difficult macroeconomic environment in 2022, we have continued Bosch Rexroth’s strong growth momentum. We continue to focus on product technology research and development in the fields of hydraulics, electrification and factory automation, and enhance the competitiveness of our product portfolio through acquisition projects in order to achieve future performance growth and meet the changing needs of customers. Even in such difficult times, Bosch Rexroth has always been an innovative and reliable partner.” said Dr. Steffen Haack, CEO of Bosch Rexroth AG.

Sales and orders: Despite the challenges, the company’s overall sales and new orders performed strongly

In fiscal 2022, Bosch Rexroth achieved sales of 7 billion euros, an increase of 14.1%, setting a new historical record. In the previous fiscal year, Bosch Rexroth’s sales were 6.2 billion euros, which had returned to pre-epidemic levels. Compared with the sales results in 2019, Bosch Rexroth’s sales in fiscal 2022 increased by 849 million euros.

The largest increase was in the Americas, with sales reaching 1.4 billion euros, an increase of 34.8%. Europe excluding Germany followed closely with sales of 2.4 billion euros, an increase of 16.5%; in Germany, sales increased by 11.3% to 1.4 billion euros. Sales growth in the Asia/Africa/Australia region was relatively weak, with a total of 1.8 billion euros. China is the largest market in this region and one of the largest sales markets for the entire Bosch Rexroth Group; under the influence of the coronavirus, sales in China fell by more than 9%. However, sales growth in other regions compensated for this problem and ultimately set a new record.

In addition to actual growth, exchange rate fluctuations and price fluctuations also have an impact on turnover. Through mutual understanding and cooperation with customers, Bosch Rexroth effectively coped with the sharp increase in raw materials, energy, logistics and labor costs. But even so, the cost pressure faced by the company is still huge.

In 2022, Bosch Rexroth’s new orders amounted to approximately 7.3 billion euros, a decrease of 2.1% compared with the previous year. Bosch Rexroth effectively responded to the challenges brought about by factors such as epidemic policies and conflicts in Europe. However, new orders fluctuated during the year, depending on the region or technology.

R&D and global production network: Focus on customer interests, investment reaches new highs

Bosch Rexroth has once again increased its investment in R&D and its global production network, focusing on innovation and efficient service models for customers.

In fiscal 2022, Bosch Rexroth invested around 388 million euros in research and development. This amount accounts for about 5.5% of total sales and is also a record high in the company’s history. The focus areas of investment include digitalization, the eLION product platform for electrification of walking machinery, the ctrlX AUTOMATION platform for factory automation, the ACTIVE Shuttle autonomous mobile robot, and the H4U system software platform for industrial hydraulics. Bosch Rexroth will present many of these innovations at the Hannover Messe from April 17 to 21, 2023.

Bosch Rexroth invested 274 million euros in its global production network of 46 production sites, accounting for 3.9% of sales and an increase of 53.1% compared with the previous year. This investment also set a record in the past decade. The investment was used to modernize existing production sites and build new production sites. Bosch Rexroth is currently building new plants in Querétaro (Mexico) and Charlotte (North Carolina, USA) to strengthen the regional supply chain in North America. In Slovenia, Bosch Rexroth is merging three existing production sites into a new plant in Ljubljana to serve the business growth in the European market. In Germany, the company invested more than 120 million euros in the construction of office buildings, logistics facilities and production facilities for the iron foundry in Lohr and promoted the modernization of the plant in all aspects. Outside of Germany, Bosch Rexroth invested the most in Turkey and China.

These measures are conducive to creating a regionally balanced production network and achieving sustainable development to further optimize product supply and services.

Acquisitions and partnerships: further enhancing the competitiveness of the product portfolio and the potential for business growth

In 2022, Bosch Rexroth acquired several companies and company shares and established some joint ventures.

The largest acquisition was in the hydraulic business area, which was announced in July 2022: HydraForce is a company specializing in mechanical and solenoid cartridge valves, as well as hydraulic manifolds, headquartered in the United States, with a total of about 2,100 employees. Since the acquisition was completed in February 2023, the addition of HydraForce has significantly enhanced Bosch Rexroth’s business strength in the field of compact hydraulic systems, especially in North America, and will achieve further growth in Asia.

In factory automation, Elmo Motion Control, headquartered in Israel, has become a part of Bosch Rexroth’s Automation and Electrical Control Division since November. The company is responsible for the development and production of high-end electric servo drives and drive controllers for industrial automation. These products will further improve the product portfolio based on the ctrlX AUTOMATION automation platform.

Bosch Rexroth acquired a majority stake in Danish robot brand Kassow Robots in May. Kassow Robots is mainly responsible for the development and production of collaborative robots for industrial applications.

In China, Bosch Rexroth has established two new companies, namely Leda Bohua Automation (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. in the field of factory automation and Lezhuo Bowei Hydraulics Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. in the field of mobile machinery and industrial hydraulics, to further achieve business growth by providing products that meet market needs for specific markets.

Number of employees: The global team continues to grow

As of the end of 2022, Bosch Rexroth has a total of about 32,100 employees. The number of employees has increased by about 1,000 compared with the previous year, an increase of about 3.2%. The size of the team has developed in all regions. The department with the largest demand for employees is the factory automation and digitalization department.

Looking ahead to 2023: Cautious optimism in a still challenging environment

“In 2022, I was impressed by how our global team, based on a strong corporate culture, helped our customers successfully overcome many difficulties with great enthusiasm. We are cautiously optimistic about 2023. Our newly acquired companies complement our existing businesses and inject further momentum into sales growth,” said Holger von Hebel, CFO of Bosch Rexroth AG. There are still many challenges to deal with, including conflicts in Europe, problems with the supply and logistics of raw materials, and uncertainties in the international business environment. “That is why we need to continue to improve our business. For example, we are further consolidating our agile and results-oriented corporate culture through various measures. In addition, we are gradually promoting the digital transformation of various parts of the company and paying more attention to actions related to sustainability,” said von Hebel.

MOTOROLA MVME51005E-0163 - High-Performance Industrial Control Module

MVME51005E-0163 Single Board Computer

The MVME5100 series utilizes the PowerPlus II Architecture to support full PCI throughput of 264MB/s without starving the processor from its memory. The extended temperature versions of the MVME5100 series offer hardware and software compatible products to enhance the existing MVME5100 product. Versions are available that operate at extended temperature ranges of –20° to 71° C vs. 0° to 55° C for the already existing commercial versions.

The Motorola MVME5100 series is the fl agship of the Motorola PowerPlus II VME Architecture line, enabling supercomputing levels of performance in a single VMEbus slot. Based on an integrated PCI bridge-memory controller ASIC designed by Motorola, PowerPlus II takes memory performance to new levels with 582MB/s memory read bandwidth and 640MB/s burst write bandwidth.

I/O COMPATIBILITY

Historically, Motorola has offered two tracks in its PowerPC Architecture VME portfolio. The fi rst track (which includes the MVME2600/2700) provides typical single-board computer I/O features including Ethernet, SCSI, multiple serial ports, a parallel port and a single PMC slot. The on-board I/O is routed to P2 and made available to the user via Motorola MVME761 or MVME712M transition boards. The second track (which includes the MVME2300/2400) offers limited on-board I/O (Ethernet and a single serial port both via the front panel) but provides dual PMC slots enabling maximum user I/O customization.

The MVME5100 merges the best features of both tracks enabling the OEM to support varying I/O requirements with the same base platform, simplifying part number maintenance, technical expertise requirements and sparing.

P2 I/O MODES

The MVME5100 supports two, jumper-confi gurable P2 I/O modes; PMC and IPMC. PMC mode is backward compatible with the MVME2300/MVME2400. In PMC mode, 64 pins from PMC slot 1 and 46 pins from PMC slot 2 are available onP2 for PMC rear I/O.

In IPMC mode, the MVME5100 supports legacy MVME761 or MVME712M I/O modules (with limited PMC I/O) when an IPMC761 or IPMC712 PMC card is populated in PMC slot 1. In this confi guration, PMC slot 2 contains some signals that are reserved for extended SCSI.

IPMC MODULES

The IPMC761 and IPMC712 are optional add-on PMC modules that provide backward compatibility with previous-generation Motorola products (such asMVME2600 and MVME2700) using the MVME761 orMVME712M transition board. IPMC modules provide rear I/O support for the following:

One single-ended Ultra Wide SCSI port

One parallel port

Four serial ports (2 or 3 async and 1 or 2 sync/async, depending on module)

With this PMC card confi guration, the memory mezzanine, one PMC slot and the PMCspan are still available, providing support for OEM product customization.

TRANSITION MODULES

The MVME761 transition module provides industry-standard connector access to the IEEE 1284 parallel port, a 10BaseT or 100BaseT port via an RJ-45 connector, two DB-9 connectors providing access to the asynchronous serial ports confi gured as EIA-574 DTE and two HD-26 connectors providing access to the sync/async serial ports. These serial ports, labeled as Serial 3 and Serial 4 on the faceplate of the MVME761, are individually user-confi gurable as EIA-232, EIA-530, V.35, or X.21 DCE or DTE via the installation of Motorola Serial Interface Modules (SIMs). A P2 adapter board provides interface signals to the MVME761 transition module. Two separate P2 adapter boards are available: one for 3-row backplanes and one for 5-row backplanes. The 3-row P2 adapter board provides connection for 8-bit SCSI. A 5-row P2 adapter board supports 16-bit SCSI and PMC I/O.

The MVME712M transition module provides industry-standard connector access to the Centronics parallel port, a narrow SCSI port, and four DB-25 connectors providing access to the asynchronous/synchronous serial ports jumper confi gurable as EIA-232 DCE or DTE. A P2 adapter board provides interface signals to the MVME712M transition module. The 3-row P2 adapter board also provides connection for 8-bit SCSI. To gain access to the additional userdefi nable I/O pins provided via the 5-row VME64 extension connector, a special P2 adapter board is available. This adapter panel replaces the traditional 3-row P2 adapter board and extends its capability by providing access to the PMC I/O pins.

FIRMWARE MONITOR

Firmware must fulfi ll the traditional functions of test and initialization and provide operating system boot support. The MVME5100 fi rmware monitor exceeds these requirements with a proven monitor from the embedded VME leader. It expands features like power-up tests with extensive diagnostics, as well as a powerful evaluation and debug tool for simple checkout or when high-level development debuggers require additional support. All this is included with the MVME5100 fi rmware; plus it supports booting both operating systems and kernels.

OPERATING SYSTEMS AND KERNELS

MVME5100 supports booting a variety of operating systems, including VxWorks from Wind River Systems, Inc., Integrity from Green Hills, and Linux from a variety of partners.

DIAGNOSTIC SOFTWARE

Motorola Built-In Test (MBIT) is an off-the-shelf software infrastructure designed to verify the correct operation of Motorola hardware and enable the incorporation of system level diagnostics. A comprehensive User Manual with software development guidelines is provided on MBIT’s CD-ROM. Two versions of MBIT are available and are compatible with Wind River Systems Tornado 2.1.

Board-level MBIT is a comprehensive diagnostic software package designed to verify the performance of board mounted logic devices. All tests can execute at boot-up and selected tests can run continuously in the background of user applications. An API is included to provide access to test results and to modify and control the operation of device tests.

System-level MBIT includes all functionality and API function calls of the board level version and enables system-wide testing. System Level MBIT provides a framework and additional API function calls to support the inclusion of software designed to test custom hardware and/or system components

OpenAI receives $1.5 billion in new investment from SoftBank, allows employees to sell shares through tender offers

OpenAI is allowing employees to sell about $1.5 billion worth of stock in a new tender offer to SoftBank, CNBC has learned.

The new financing will give the Japanese tech group a bigger slice of the artificial intelligence startup and allow current and former OpenAI employees to cash out their shares, two people familiar with the matter told CNBC.

Employees have until Dec. 24 to decide whether to participate in the new tender offer, which has not been previously reported, one of the people said. The deal was pushed by SoftBank’s billionaire founder and CEO Masayoshi Son, who insisted on a larger stake in the startup after investing $500 million in OpenAI’s last round of funding, one of the people said.

The tender offer is unrelated to OpenAI’s potential plans to restructure the company as a for-profit business, one of the people said.

OpenAI and SoftBank declined to comment.

The deal, which is being made through SoftBank’s Vision 2 fund, highlights Son’s interest in the field of artificial intelligence and backing the most valuable private companies, according to people familiar with the matter. SoftBank is an early investor in semiconductor company Arm, and Son said at a conference in October that he is preparing “tens of billions of dollars” to “take the next big step” in artificial intelligence. He has previously invested in Apple, Qualcomm and Alibaba.

SoftBank’s Vision Fund 2 recently invested in artificial intelligence startups Glean, Perplexity and Poolside. SoftBank has about 470 portfolio companies and $160 billion in assets across its two Vision Funds.

A person close to Son told CNBC that the investment in OpenAI fits SoftBank’s enthusiasm for deploying cash and adopting a capital-intensive business model.

Even without SoftBank’s deep pockets, OpenAI can easily raise billions of dollars in cash. In the two years since launching ChatGPT, its valuation has climbed to $157 billion. OpenAI has raised about $13 billion from Microsoft and completed its latest $6.6 billion round of financing in October, led by Thrive Capital and followed by chipmaker Nvidia, SoftBank and other companies.

The company also received a $4 billion revolving credit line, bringing its total liquidity to more than $10 billion. CNBC confirmed to a person familiar with the matter in September that OpenAI expects revenue of $3.7 billion this year and losses of about $5 billion.

OpenAI employees can cash out

The tender offer will be for current and former employees who received restricted stock units at least two years ago and held them for at least two years, a person familiar with the matter said. The price of $210 per share will be consistent with the company’s most recent round of financing.

Against the backdrop of a sluggish IPO market and soaring company valuations, tender offers are crucial for technology employees. Private companies rely on such transactions to keep employees happy and ease the pressure of going public. Since OpenAI won’t be going public anytime soon and its price is too expensive for potential acquirers, secondary stock sales are the only way for shareholders to get some of their paper wealth in the near future.

Databricks is another private company that raised money to allow employees to cash out and avoid the pressure of the public markets, CNBC reported on Tuesday.

OpenAI has taken a stricter approach to tender offers in the past, with the company setting rules to determine who can participate in stock sales, CNBC reported in June. Current and former OpenAI employees previously told CNBC that concerns about access to liquidity grew after reports that the company had the right to claw back vested shares.

But the company changed its policy on secondary sales of stock in June and now allows current and former employees to participate equally in the annual stock tender offer.

The company expects to allow more of these secondary sales and will need to tap the private markets again in the future depending on investor demand and the capital-intensive nature of its business, according to a person familiar with the new tender offer.

OpenAI faces increasing competition from startups like Anthropic and tech giants like Google. Revenue in the generative AI market is expected to exceed $1 trillion within a decade, according to new data from Menlo Ventures, and corporate spending on generative AI has surged 500% this year.

In October, OpenAI launched a search feature in its popular chatbot ChatGPT, enabling the powerful AI startup to better compete with search engines like Google, Microsoft’s Bing, and Perplexity.

Major chip suppliers gain as U.S. reportedly considers easing restrictions on China

Shares of major global semiconductor equipment companies rose on Thursday following reports that the United States was considering sanctions on China’s chip industry that fell short of earlier proposals.

ASML

was up about 2.9% in afternoon trading in Europe. Tokyo Electron

its shares closed up 6.7% in Japan.

Bloomberg reported on Wednesday that Washington is considering further measures to restrict sales of semiconductor equipment and artificial intelligence memory chips to China, but the new rules may be less stringent than earlier proposals that were seen as more stringent.

The U.S. Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry declined to comment on the Bloomberg report.

The United States is currently considering reducing the number of suppliers to Chinese tech giant Huawei on its export blacklist of “entity lists.” One key Chinese company that will not be blacklisted is reportedly Changxin Memory Technologies, a storage company and potential competitor to the likes of SK Hynix and Samsung.

ASML had previously expected revenue from China to fall 30% next year, according to Jefferies analysts. Jefferies said on Thursday that excluding the company could mean ASML’s sales in China “will fall less than expected” next year.

ASML is caught in the vortex of the US-China battle for semiconductor technology because of its key position in the chip supply chain.

ASML makes the machines that chipmakers need to make the most advanced semiconductors. These machines have not been exported to China due to various export controls. Recently, the Dutch and US governments have imposed restrictions that make it more difficult for ASML to export some of its less advanced machines to China.

The company sells its machines to “fabs,” or factories that actually make chips, such as TSMC in Taiwan and SMIC in China. Any rules that hit demand or directly target semiconductor manufacturers would have a negative impact on ASML.

The Bloomberg report suggests that further sanctions being considered would target Chinese companies that make semiconductor manufacturing equipment, rather than the factories that actually make chips. This would also be a positive for ASML and other foreign semiconductor equipment companies that sell to fabs.

3500-60 and 3500-61 Temperature Modules Datasheet – 141540

The 3500/60 & 61 modules provide six channels of temperature monitoring and accept both Resistance.Temperature Detector (RTD) and Thermocouple (TC) temperature inputs. The modules condition these inputs and compare them against user-programmable alarm setpoints. The 3500/60 and 3500/61 provide identical functionality except that the 3500/61 provides recorder outputs for each of its six channels while the 3500/60 does not.Bently Nevada 3500/64M 140734-05 Dynamic Pressure Monitor PLC Module

The user programs the modules to perform either RTD or TC temperature measurements using the 3500 Rack Configuration Software. Different I/O modules are available in RTD/TC non-isolated or TC isolated versions. The user can configure the RTD/TC non-isolated version to accept either TC or RTD, or a mixture of TC and RTD inputs. The TC isolated version provides 250 Vdc of channel-to-channel isolation to protect against external interference.

When used in a Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) configuration, temperature monitors must be installed adjacent to each other in groups of three. When used in this configuration, the system employs two types of voting to ensure accurate operation and to avoid single-point failures.

Alarm Setpoints

The user can set Alert and Danger setpoints for the value measured by the monitor using software configuration. Alarms are adjustable from 0 to 100% of full-scale for each measured value. The exception is when the full-scale range exceeds the range of the sensor. In this case, the range of the sensor will limit the setpoint. Accuracy of alarms are to within 0.13% of the desired value. The Temperature Monitors have both under and over alarm setpoints.

ABB Advance Optima Integrated analyzer system solution

Use in potentially explosive atmospheres in accordance with ATEX and IECEx … Use in ATEX / IECEx Zone 1

Housing purge control flow

The power supply of the gas analyzer is provided via the purging and monitoring unit of the housing purging.

• The power supply to the gas analyzer may only be released from the purging and monitoring unit after the successful initial purge.ABB AO2040 AO2000 Continuous Gas Analyser, ABB

• The purging and monitoring unit monitors the overpressure inside the housing and de-energizes the gas analyzer if the level is below the minimum overpressure (e.g. due to a leakage or purge gas supply failure).

Sequence of the purging and monitoring unit The gas analyzer is powered from the purging and monitoring unit, i.e. the purging and monitoring unit prevents the gas analyzer from being energized before the purge is completed.

The flow sequence of the purging and monitoring unit is as follows:

1. After the start of the sequence, the purge gas flow and overpressure in the monitor are monitored by the purging and monitoring unit.

2. If the minimum flow rate of the purge gas and the overpressure are within the specified limits (see Purge parameters for pressurized enclosure on page 10), the purge timer (initial purge time) can be started;

3. After the initial purge time has elapsed, the power supply is released for the gas analyzer.

4. In the event of an error in one of the sequence steps, the controller must be set up to be reset to the beginning.

This sequence is presented in Figure 4.

Each state of the system is defined in response to the inputs of the monitor. The states are unique. Transitions between the states are only allowed along the paths defined by the arrows and towards the arrows.

The logical conditions for each state are defined by the following boolean logical expressions:
